PAP
This South African Food Recipe Serves 4-8
Pap is a South African porridge made with maize meal. It is also known to be called mieliepap or maize meal. Pap is a traditional Zulu local cuisine & is enjoyed with various meals. It can be made in different consistencies depending on your preference.
Pronunciation : pup’
Pap Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 cup maize meal
- 2 cups (500ml) water
- ½ teaspoon salt
Method:
- In a large pot/pan, pour in water, add the salt & bring to a boil.
- Turn down the heat once it starts to boil & immediately add the butter & maize meal.
- Do not allow the water to cool.
- Mix to combine to the consistency that you desire.
- To make the mixture more thick, add more maize meal & to make the mixture more weak, add more boiling water.
- Cover with a lid & leave it on low heat to cook. Cook for approximately 30-35 minutes.
Serve hot. Goes well with Curries, Chakalaka, Braais or as a side to a meal.

I would like to know if you can keep cooked pap in the fridge overnight and reheat and use the next day ?
