Step-by-Step Instructions

30 Steps
  1. Step 1

Prepare a 22 centimeter square casserole (or one that is of size that will add height to the brownies) by greasing it with spraying oil.

    Step 1 visual guide
  2. Step 2

Next, bring out the dates. These may be omitted if desired.

    Step 2 visual guide
  3. Step 3

Finely chop the dates & set that aside until ready to use.

    Step 3 visual guide
  4. Step 4

Thereafter, bring out the star of this recipe – the Marie Biscuits.

    Step 4 visual guide
  5. Step 5

Place the Marie Biscuits into a plastic bag.

    Step 5 visual guide
  6. Step 6

Use a rolling pin to crush over the biscuits until they’re broken but not too fine as you want them to remain in solid form & not turn into powder.

    Step 6 visual guide
  7. Step 7

Next, add the room temperature butter or margarine to a large microwave safe bowl.

    Step 7 visual guide
  8. Step 8

Heat the butter or margarine in the microwave for ± 30 seconds or until melted.

    Step 8 visual guide
  9. Step 9

To the melted butter or margarine, add in the condensed milk & the golden syrup.

    Step 9 visual guide
  10. Step 10

    Add in the cocoa powder.

    Step 10 visual guide
  11. Step 11

Once the butter has melted, add in the marshmallows.

    Step 11 visual guide
  12. Step 12

Now it’s time to add in the chopped dates.

    Step 12 visual guide
  13. Step 13

Give it a mix until the ingredients are well combined.

    Step 13 visual guide
  14. Step 14

Throw in the crushed Marie Biscuits.

    Step 14 visual guide
  15. Step 15

Mix well until the biscuits are coated in the mixture. I had to change up bowls as the first one wasn’t large enough.

    Step 15 visual guide
  16. Step 16

Pour the mixture into the greased casserole & use a spatula or the back of a spoon to tightly compress the mixture.

    Step 16 visual guide
  17. Step 17

Set that aside & add the milk chocolate to another microwave safe bowl.

    Step 17 visual guide
  18. Step 18

Heat the chocolate in the microwave for 30 seconds. Remove & give it a stir. The chocolate should be partially melted.

    Step 18 visual guide
  19. Step 19

Pop the bowl back into the microwave & heat for another 30 seconds.

    Step 19 visual guide
  20. Step 20

Remove from the microwave & stir. It should be fully melted. Be sure to melt the chocolate at 30 second intervals at a time, stirring in in-between as this will prevent the chocolate from burning & becoming unusable.

    Step 20 visual guide
  21. Step 21

Pour the melted chocolate over the compressed mixture in the casserole. Use the back of a spoon to spread the chocolate evenly.

    Step 21 visual guide
  22. Step 22

  25. Step 25

Refrigerate for 1 hour until it becomes firm & the chocolate has hardened.
