This Recipe Makes 16 Bars

Naked Nestlé Chocolate Log is my version of the irresistible Chocolate Log that was brought to us South African’s by Nestlé. Sadly, it was announced on Tuesday 14 July 2020 that this chocolate treat of 50 years is discontinued.

This chocolate bar had creamy marshmallow on crisp wafer & was covered in milk chocolate – delicious right! It used to retail for around R12.99 each for a 46 gram bar.

There are many lovers of this chocolate so I figured why not create your very own whenever the craving hits. I did not coat the whole bar in chocolate, hence why I am calling them “Naked” but by all means if you want to coat the whole bar in delicious chocolate then you have yourself a legit Chocolate Log.

Step-by-Step Instructions

35 Steps
  1. Step 1

Prepare a square casserole (big enough to fit as many wafers as you prefer) by adding a layer of wax/parchment paper.

    Step 1 visual guide
  2. Step 2

Using some spraying oil, thoroughly spray the wax/parchment paper.

    Step 2 visual guide
  3. Step 3

Next, bring out the vanilla wafers. Other flavours may be used if preffered but I chose vanilla to make them more authentic. I also used the Woolworths brand as their wafers are more of a “chocolate bar shape”,

    Step 3 visual guide
  4. Step 4

Line the vanilla wafers at the base of the casserole, side by side & it should be a tight fit (no gaps). I used 16 of the wafers.

    Step 4 visual guide
  5. Step 5

Next, it’s time to put the white marshmallows into a microwave safe bowl.

    Step 5 visual guide
  6. Step 6

To the marshmallows, add in the 1 tablespoon of water.

    Step 6 visual guide
  7. Step 7

Pop it into the microwave for 30 seconds.

    Step 7 visual guide
  8. Step 8

Give it a mix, it should be partially melted at this point.

    Step 8 visual guide
  9. Step 9

Pop the bowl back into the microwave for another 30 seconds.

    Step 9 visual guide
  10. Step 10

Give it a mix once again.

    Step 10 visual guide
  11. Step 11

It should be melted completely with a creamy texture.

    Step 11 visual guide
  12. Step 12

Plop the melted marshmallows or marshmallow fluff over the lined wafers.

    Step 12 visual guide
  13. Step 13

Use a spatula & evenly spread the marshmallows.

    Step 13 visual guide
  14. Step 14

Place the casserole into the refrigerator for 15 minutes. This will allow the marshmallows to become more firm & less sticky.

    Step 14 visual guide
  15. Step 15

After 15 minutes, bring out the chocolate. I used the Cadbury slab because I could not find any plain Nestlé Chocolate on hand.

    Step 15 visual guide
  16. Step 16

Break the chocolate into pieces & place it into a microwave safe bowl.

    Step 16 visual guide
  17. Step 17

To the chocolate, add the 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.

    Step 17 visual guide
  18. Step 18

Place the bowl into the microwave & heat for 30 seconds.

    Step 18 visual guide
  19. Step 19

Give it a mix. The chocolate should be partially melted.

    Step 19 visual guide
  20. Step 20

Add it back into the microwave & heat for another 30 seconds. Give it a mix & it should be nice & melted.

    Step 20 visual guide
  21. Step 21

Next, bring out the casserole from the refrigerator.

    Step 21 visual guide
  22. Step 22

Pour the melted chocolate over the marshmallows.

    Step 22 visual guide
  23. Step 23

    Spread the chocolate evenly.

    Step 23 visual guide
  24. Step 24

Place the casserole back into the refrigerator & allow the chocolate to set. It can also be put into the freezer to speed up the setting process.

    Step 24 visual guide
  25. Step 25

Grab the wax/parchment paper by the ends & pull it out of the casserole placing it onto a board or counter top.

    Step 25 visual guide
  26. Step 26

Thereafter, carefully remove the wax/parchment paper, making sure there aren’t any bits on the chocolate or marshmallow,

    Step 26 visual guide
  27. Step 27

Place another sheet of wax/parchment paper over the hardened chocolate.

    Step 27 visual guide
  28. Step 28

Carefully flip the whole block so that the wafers are now on top.

    Step 28 visual guide
  29. Step 29

Peel away the layer of wax/parchment paper that is covering the wafers.

    Step 29 visual guide
  30. Step 30

Using a sharp knife, cut alongside each of the wafers, making sure to go all the way through. This will give the bar shapes.

    Step 30 visual guide
  31. Step 31

Once again, place a sheet of wax/parchment paper over & flip it over.

    Step 31 visual guide
  32. Step 32

Break off each of the cut out bars.

    Step 32 visual guide
  33. Step 33

These Naked Nestlé Chocolate Log bars are ready to be devoured.

    Step 33 visual guide
  34. Step 34

Whilst they are in this form, they can be dunked into melted chocolate & left to set in the refrigerator or freezer to create the authentic Chocolate Logs.

    Step 34 visual guide
  35. Step 35

Good Morning,
Thank you, Thank you. I grew up in Zimbabwe and when my family visited South Africa, that would be my most favourite treat.
I now live in Canada and deal with Aubergine Foods Canada in British Columbia for a lot of favourites from South Africa.
I was so disheartened when the Chocolate Log and Pecks Anchovette were discontinued. However, finding your recipe for the Chocolate Log is awesome. I am no baker, my family usually runs when I try cooking. So, I wanted to Thank you for the recipe.
