Spicy Mince Spaghetti Ingredients:
Mince:
- 2 tablespoons cooking olive oil
- 1 onion
- 2 heaped tablespoons chilli powder or masala
- 1 teaspoon coriander (dhania) powder
- ½ teaspoon cumin (jeera) powder
- ½ teaspoon chilli flakes
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- ¼ teaspoon fine black pepper
- 2 teaspoons ginger and garlic paste
- 500 grams beef/lamb mince
- salt to taste
- 70 grams tomato paste
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 2 teaspoons dried parsley
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- ¼ cup Veri Peri sauce (optional)
- 400 grams Arrabbiata pasta sauce
- 70 ml pasta water
- freshly chopped parsley for garnishing
- parmesan cheese for topping
Spaghetti:
- 500 grams spaghetti
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- water as needed
- salt to taste
Method:
- Start off by preparing the spaghetti. I’ve used the Fatti’s & Moni’s brand but feel free to use your preferred brand.
- Add enough water to a pot on medium-high heat. To the water, add olive oil and salt to taste and allow it to come to a boil.
- Once the water reaches a boil, add in the spaghetti. Do not break it, just add it in until the bottom ends start to soften.
- Once the bottom ends have softened, use some tongs and gently swirl the spaghetti so that everything is submerged in the water.
- Allow the spaghetti to boil until al dente.
- Reserve 70 ml of pasta water.
- Drain the spaghetti and set aside until ready to use.
- Peel and chop the onion.
- To a pot on medium heat, add in the cooking olive oil and the chopped onions. Mix and sauté until the onions are translucent.
- Once translucent, add in the spices (chilli powder or masala, coriander powder, cumin powder, chilli flakes, cayenne pepper and black pepper) and the ginger and garlic paste.
- Mix and sauté for 30 seconds.
- Add in the mince and salt to taste.
- Mix until the mince is coated in the spices.
- Cover and allow to cook for 10 minutes.
- After 10 minutes, add in the dried thyme, dried parsley and dried oregano.
- Add tomato paste and Veri Peri sauce.
- Mix and simmer for 2 minutes.
- Next, add in the Arrabbiata pasta sauce.
- Add in the drained spaghetti and the reserved pasta water.
- Use tongs and toss together until everything is well incorporated.
- Saute for a further 5 minutes and then garnish with fresh parsley and parmesan cheese.
- This Spicy Mince Spaghetti is ready to serve.
- This dish is so easy to whip up and is definitely a comfort dish for Winter especially if you don’t mind the kick of spiciness.
- Stores well for up to a week in the refrigerator.
