What Makes Steak Rolls So Special?
Steak rolls combine the best of both worlds—think of them as a delicious fusion between a classic roulade and a hearty stir-fry. Thin slices of tender beef are seared with your choice of vegetables and cheese and stuffed into rolls.
Steak Rolls Ingredients:
Steak Filling:
- 1 kg Rump steak
- 1 ½ tablespoons steak rub
- 1 tablespoon ghost chilli seasoning
- 1 tablespoon dried mixed herbs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cumin (jeera) powder
- ½ tablespoon chilli powder
- 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon ginger and garlic paste
- 1 large onion
- ½ green bell pepper
- ½ red bell pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried mixed herbs
- 4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon Samyang Buldak pink bottle hot sauce
- ½ cup grated gouda cheese
- ½ cup grated mozzarella
Garlic Butter:
- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 2 teaspoons crushed garlic
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
Other:
- 2 large rolls (or rolls of choice)
- Fresh chips (fries) (optional)
- Sriracha mayo
Method:
- Bring out the rump steak, give it a rince and slice into thin pieces.
- To a bowl add in the steak rub, ghost chilli seasoning and dried mixed herbs – I got these from Woolworths.
- To the same bowl of spices, add in salt, cumin (jeera) powder and chilli powder.
- Peel and sliver the onion.
- Rinse and finely chop the bell peppers. You may slice it into larger pieces if you prefer.
- To a pan on medium heat, add in the vegetable oil. Once the oil is hot, add in the sliced steak.
- Add in the bowl of spices and ginger and garlic paste.
- Mix until the steak is coated with the spices.
- Allow the steak to cook for ±5 minutes until it changes colour.
- Thereafter, add in the slivered onions and chopped bell peppers.
- Mix and allow to cook until the onions and bell peppers are soft (±5 minutes).
- Next, add in the Worcestershire and Samyang Buldak hot sauce.
- Mix until combined.
- Grate the gouda and mozzarella.
- Add it to the steak.
- Mix and allow the cheese to melt.
- Now that the steak filling is ready, make the garlic butter by adding the butter, crushed garlic and dried parsley to a microwave safe bowl. Heat in the microwave for 30 seconds or until melted.
- Bring out rolls of your choice. I have used these large Turkish rolls.
- Slice the rolls down the middle and brush the outside and inside with the garlic butter.
- Pop the rolls into your air fryer for 2 minutes at 180° Celsius or in your oven for 5 minutes at 180° Celsius.
- Next, I made some masala chips (fries), this is optional.
- Add the chips (fries) to the rolls.
- Drizzle over some Sriracha mayo.
- Now it’s time to fill up the rolls with the steak filling.
- These steak rolls are so delicious and definitely go a long way. There should be some leftover filling which can go into slices of bread and then toasted.
