This Recipe Makes 12 Biscuits (1 Dozen)


 

These TV Bar Biscuits / Cookies are absolutely delectable. They are a rich & a perfect treat any time of day. They look very similar to the TV Bar chocolate by Beacon, hence the name.

TV Bar Biscuits are molded to look like the TV Bar chocolate & covered in delicious milk chocolate for that extra richness. One of these is enough for the day due to their size but they can be molded & baked in smaller sizes – I just chose to get them as similar as I could to the chocolate bar. This is also a great bake to gift someone & also perfect for those Eid & Diwali/Deepavali parcels.

 

TV Bar Biscuits Ingredients:

  • 250 grams butter / margarine, room temperature
  • ½ cup castor sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup desiccated coconut
  • 2 tablespoons milk powder (Klim)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups rice krispies

For the chocolate coating:

  • 180 grams plain milk chocolate
  • 3 teaspoons vegetable oil

Method:

  1. Preheat oven to 160° Celsius.
  2. Make sure the butter / margarine is at room temperature.
  3. TV Bar Biscuits
  4. Add the butter / margarine to a mixing bowl.
  5. Add in the castor sugar.
  6. Mix the butter / margarine & the castor sugar until smooth & creamy.
  7. Add in the cocoa powder & salt.
  8. Thereafter, add in the milk powder & the desiccated coconut.
  9. Then, add in the vegetable oil, the flour & the rice krispies. I have used the vanilla flavoured rice krispies. If you do not have the vanilla flavoured ones, add a teaspoon of vanilla essence.
  10. Give it a quick mix.
  11. Using your hands, mix together to form a dough.
  12. Lightly grease any square or rectangular casserole using spraying oil. Flatten the dough into the casserole.
  13. I have used a 38×28 centimeter casserole. There should be some height when packing it into the casserole as the will be the thickness of each biscuit / cookie. A small glass can also be used to roll over the dough to ensure it is tightly packed.
  14. Place the casserole into the freezer for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, the dough should be firm.
  15. Next, using a knife, cut the dough into 12 equal parts. They may also be cut into small parts but be careful as the smaller they are, the easier they will crumble whilst in this form.
  16. Once they are cut out into sections, mold them into chocolate bars using your hands & place them onto a baking tray lined with wax or parchment paper,
  17. Make sure to leave some space in between each one as they will expand a bit once baked.
  18. Place the tray into the preheated oven & bake them for 25-30 minutes, depending on your oven.
  19. Once their baked, they should be much firmer.
  20. If any of them scorched at the bottoms, simply use a serrated knife & scrape it off.
  21. Place them onto a cooling rack to cool completely.
  22. Whilst they cool, lay a sheet of foil onto a tray – large enough to fit all the biscuits with ample space in between them. Set aside.
  23. Continue with this step only once the biscuits are completely cooled. In a microwavable bowl, add in the plain milk chocolate. This bowl should be able to fit one of the biscuits in it as we will be coating them later on.
  24. Pour in the vegetable oil. This will prevent the chocolate from becoming too thick.
  25. Microwave the chocolate at 30 second intervals at a time, mixing it in between until it is melted. If it is longer than 30 seconds at a time, the chocolate will burn.
  26. Take one biscuit at a time & dunk it into the melted chocolate.
  27. Using a spoon, toss the biscuit around in the chocolate, ensuring that it is fully coated. Lift it up with the spoon & allow any excess chocolate to drip off.
  28. Place the coated biscuit onto the foiled tray that was prepared earlier, The foil will allow the biscuits to easily come off.
  29. Place this tray into the freezer & allow the chocolate to harden. It usually takes about 30 minutes.
  30. Once the chocolate has hardened, remove from the freezer.
  31. Carefully & gently pull the TV Bar Biscuits off the foil. You may crack off any excess hardened chocolate around the edges.
  32. Enjoy them whilst you can because they wipe out fast!
  33. When you break them apart, the inside looks exactly like the TV Bar chocolate – only this is a biscuit version of it but it still tastes the same.
  34. Store these TV Bar Biscuits in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a month.
