Method:

  1. Heat a pot of water. Add salt to taste & allow for the water to boil. Once it reaches a boil, add in the pasta & 2 teaspoons of cooking oil. Mix well & allow the pasta to cook for about 10 minutes. Strain the cooked pasta in a colander & set aside.
  2. Blanch tomatoes in the microwave & chop the onion.
  3. Heat 2 tablespoons cooking oil in a pot & drop in the onions.
  4. Add the blanched tomatoes to the onions & cook on medium heat for about 10 minutes.
  5. Add in the chicken spice, garlic powder & dried mixed herbs.
  6. Drop in the tomato sauce and mix well until combined. This is now a simple marinara sauce.
  7. Next empty the contents of ricotta or cottage cheese into a bowl & crack an egg into it.

  9. Mix well until combined & set aside.
  10. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a skillet & fry the chicken steaklets until crisp & cooked throughout.
  11. Grate cheese & set aside.
  12. Get a large casserole that it oven safe & begin layering the pasta dish.
  13. First start by layering a coat of the marinara sauce.
  14. Then spread a layer of the gnocchi pasta.
  15. Coat the pasta with a layer of the ricotta/cottage cheese & egg mixture.
  16. Sprinkle some cheese.
  17. Add more marinara sauce.
  18. Gently place the fried chicken steaklets over & cut if necessary to fill in gaps.
  19. Sprinkle over more cheese.
  20. Layer over more pasta.
  21. Spread the last layer of ricotta/cottage cheese & egg mixture.
  22. Spread the final layer of marinara sauce.
  23. Top off with remaining cheese.
  24. Place in the oven at 180º C for 15 minutes.
  25. Enjoy whilst cheese is gooey & hot.
