FALAFEL FUNDI

This EatView Is On Falafel Fundi In Durban, South Africa

Have you tried Falafels? If not, head down to Falafel Fundi on Florida Road, Morningside, Durban, South Africa.

Falafel Fundi

I myself have never tried out falafels until I took a visit to Falafel Fundi. It is such a quaint little cozy place where you can eat in & enjoy the exotic aromas that flourish this place.

Falafels are balls of deep fried chickpeas – this store is 100% vegetarian with no preservatives. Everything is freshly made & is super delicious.

I opted to having their Mediterranean Platter, which is basically the best of the best. It came with a ton of sides which made this meal so perfect.

Firstly, their falafels are smothered in this amazing sesame sauce, it’s fresh, light & ever so fulling. I actually thought that the portion was quite tiny for a big eater such as myself, & to add to that, the hubby was sharing with me. I legit thought that this meal wasn’t going to be enough but oh my, we ended up wasting half of it just because we were so stuffed!

The sides were so refreshing, I had to try every single one of them as the colours were quite intriguing & captivating. Colourful food makes any tummy rumble!

In these cute little bowls, we received the various sides/salads. One of them consisted of these grilled brinjals (eggplants/aubergine), covered in sesame seed sauce also known as Tahini. Now, I usually ain’t a fan of brinjals but these tasted so good, that I ended up eating it all.

In the other bowls were red cabbage & green cabbage, similar to a coleslaw. These were crunchy & delicious.

The others contained deep-fried cauliflower which is topped with Tahini, a refreshing cucumber salad, freshly cut tomatoes, salsa & a big bowl of hummus with olive oil. I really love hummus & the one at Falafel Fundi was simply divine.

This meal also comes with a side of rotis.

All of the sides/salads are visible & available at the front counter so you can pick & choose which ones you really want to try out.

They also have these cool sweet treats available at the counter, just incase you have a sweet tooth after this delicious meal.

For the drinks, I decided to try out their cherry slushy which was really good.

Falafel Fundi also has some delciious hot drinks, freshly made right in front of you.

I personally feel that their prices are quite reasonable, considering how good & worth it their food is.

Apart from the dining in, Falafel Fundi also stocks a variety of Middle Eastern items such as Halva, Tahini, Baharat spice, Sumac spice, Za’atar spice & a variety of coffee blends. This makes things so easily accessible.

So the food was really amazing, but it’s all thanks to the owner, Saar Ben Hamoo. This guy has such a cool personality & makes you feel at home as soon as you step foot into his restaurant. Happy owners such as Saar, that give off good energy, definitely makes for happy customers.

Saar has been on many other platforms due to his great flavours & epic Falafel Fundi. He started his Falafel Fundi journey in 2010, using a recipe which was in his family for years.

If you haven’t tried out Falafels as yet, then please consider Falafel Fundi as your first! First impressions definitely last, heck, you may even get to meet Saar on your next visit.
