This Recipe Makes 6 Subs

I don’t know how many of you noticed but the subs from Debonairs have been discontinued (been a while now). I used to love their subs so I decided to recreate it, my favourite being the Debonairs Chicken & Mushroom Subs – If you haven’t tried it then head into your kitchen as soon as you can & start prepping.

These subs make for really delicious lunches, quick dinners & it’s also perfect for those fussy eaters.

They are super easy to prepare & is also great for game nights. If you don’t have an oven, simply pop them into your air fryer.

    Step 6 visual guide
  7. Step 7

After 5 minutes, turn the chicken over.

    Step 7 visual guide
  8. Step 8

Cover once again & allow to steam for another 5 minutes.

Place the chicken into a big bowl, discarding the excess water.

    Step 10 visual guide
  11. Step 11

Using two forks or a shredder, shred the chicken.

    Step 11 visual guide
  12. Step 12

Once the chicken has been shredded, set aside to cool.

    Step 12 visual guide
  13. Step 13

Whilst the chicken cools, bring out the mushrooms. I’m using button mushrooms but feel free to it up for your preferred choice of mushrooms.

    Step 13 visual guide
  14. Step 14

    Peel & slice the mushrooms.

    Step 14 visual guide
  15. Step 15

Peel & finely chop the onion.

  16. Step 16

Rinse & finely chop the tomato.

    Step 16 visual guide
  17. Step 17

Grate the cheese of your choice. I have used Gouda (Mozzarella works well too or a mix of both Gouda & Mozzarella).

Thereafter, add in the grated cheese.

    Step 21 visual guide
  22. Step 22

Finally, add in the mayonnaise. Unfortunately, I have no idea as to what white sauce Debonairs uses in their dishes & mayo is the closest to the taste.

    Step 22 visual guide
  23. Step 23

Mix until everything is well combined.

    Step 23 visual guide
  24. Step 24

Next, bring out the rolls. I am using store bought but if you have the time you’re welcome to make it from scratch (homemade bread rolls).

    Step 24 visual guide
  25. Step 25

Slice the hot dog rolls or the baguette if you have that on hand.

Fill the rolls up with the chicken mixture.

    Step 26 visual guide
  27. Step 27

Place the rolls into a greased casserole or baking tray if you are using the oven.

    Step 27 visual guide
  28. Step 28

Alternatively, pop them into the air fryer basket – I have used my Instant Vortex Air Fryer.

    Step 28 visual guide
  29. Step 29

Place the casserole or baking tray into an oven & bake these subs for 20 minutes at 80° Celsius until the cheese has melted. Make sure they do not get too browned.

For the Air Fryer, select the “Air Fry” button & set the time to 4 minutes & temperature to 171° Celsius.
